¡@¡@To enhance the international perspective and cross-cultural understanding of junior high school students, international master¡¦s students from our department were invited to DongSing Junior High School on April 29 to host a unique cultural exchange lecture for the English Gifted Class. This lecture brought together master¡¦s students from Kenya, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and the United States. Through diverse perspectives and full-English interaction, they presented a splendid cultural journey for the students.
¡@¡@During the lecture, the speakers shared insights based on the unique characteristics of their respective countries. The Kenyan student used photographs to showcase the unique food culture and daily life in East Africa, with vivid imagery that successfully captivated the audience's attention. The Malaysian student highlighted the characteristics of a multilingual environment, demonstrating the rich cultural diversity of Malaysia and enhancing the students' international awareness. The Myanmar student focused on festivals, sharing the religious and cultural significance of the Thingyan (Water) Festival and the Thadingyut (Lighting) Festival, allowing the gifted students to gain a deeper understanding of traditional Southeast Asian festivals. The Thai student provided a detailed introduction to Bangkok's unique urban culture and analyzed the linguistic context behind it.
¡@¡@After completing the ornaments, everyone gathered around the Christmas tree. Through collaborative effort, some were responsible for hanging sparkling garlands, while others carefully placed the handmade decorations on the branches. As the tree transformed from simple to magnificent through their collective work, the smiles on everyone's faces shone brightest. This tree is more than just a decoration; it symbolizes the team spirit of the IEM community¡Xtranscending nationalities and roles to achieve something beautiful together.
¡@¡@This lecture was not merely a one-way transfer of knowledge; it emphasized two-way interaction. The students of the DongSing English Gifted Class demonstrated exceptional English proficiency and learning enthusiasm, engaging in in-depth Q&A sessions with the international master¡¦s students. By sharing the distinct features of their home countries, the IEM master¡¦s students not only showcased their academic backgrounds but also served as bridges for cultural exchange, allowing the junior high students to experience the charm of different countries in a more authentic way.
¡@¡@At the end of the lecture, the IEM team and the faculty and students of DongSing Junior High took a commemorative group photo, capturing the memory of this cross-border exchange. This event not only deepened the educational interaction between the university and the middle school but also allowed the international students to better integrate into Taiwan's educational environment through the process of sharing their cultures. Through such cultural exchange activities, our department is committed to cultivating students with a broader international perspective and continuously promoting diverse and inclusive learning experiences.
