To welcome new students and celebrate the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival, the department recently held the "A Taste of IEM Mid-Autumn Welcome" event. The activity was designed to leverage the warm atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival's "reunion" spirit, fostering deep interaction and mutual familiarity among faculty, new, and current students, successfully building a warm cross-cultural community within the department.
The centerpiece of the event was the snow skin mooncake-making class. Not only was the professional Instructor Linda Chien invited to provide guidance, but the Director and Professor Panca from Indonesia also attended, showing the department's commitment to its students. Of particular note was the full participation of Professor Sherry, a faculty member from Vietnam, who joined students in kneading the dough and wrapping the fillings. The friendly interaction from the faculty instantly bridged the distance between teachers and students, making both international and local attendees feel especially cared for.
For students from diverse cultural backgrounds, this hands-on culinary feast was more than just a way to experience an Eastern holiday; it served as an excellent "ice-breaking" opportunity. As participants learned and collaborated, lively interactions naturally unfolded. From discussing preferred mooncake flavors to sharing stories of life abroad, laughter and chatter filled the air. The handmade mooncakes themselves became the best medium for sharing joy and building rapport, demonstrating the vibrant, multinational energy of the department's community.
Through such warm, experiential activities, the department aims to encourage all students to actively find a sense of belonging and establish supportive learning partnerships for the future, fostering collective academic growth.
Just before the start of the hands-on activity, a moment of inspiration took place during this gathering of faculty and students: the TaiwanICDF Academic Performance Award certificate was presented to the outstanding ICDF student, Sizwe. This solemn recognition not only affirmed Sizwe's academic achievement but also served as a positive talking point for the students, encouraging everyone to strive for excellence in the new academic year collectively.
The welcome event concluded successfully in an atmosphere rich in cultural heritage and warmth. It effectively transformed the Mid-Autumn blessings into tangible community support, setting a positive and friendly tone for the start of the new academic semester.
