Talking
about foods in Taiwan the best one I have encountered so far is called
(Gong-bao-ji-ding 宮保雞丁). This is served in a bowl and it consists of
spicy chicken, fried peanuts, greens, onion and some spicy peppers. Last
year we used to eat this dish everyday and one bowl costs 80 NT dollars.
I don’t know if they have a lot of stores that sell a lot of this type
of food around Taipei but I am only aware of one that sells this food
near school.
Many foreign students eat mainly McDonalds and
Subway but there are many other options that are almost quite the same
sold near school. For breakfast they have fried eggs with flour tortilla
and lunch consists also with a variety of options. Another dish that is
very delicious is Fried rice sold near school which is also spicy and is
sold for 66NT for a bowl. Perhaps there isn’t one main dish that is the
most delicious but Taiwan is full of many typical foods that one can
explore and figure out its taste. So far I have tasted many of Taiwanese
foods but up to now not all of them.
Some great places to explore your taste buds are at the many night
markets in Taipei. I have been to at least five different night markets
in Taipei so far and each one is special in its own way. Some delicious
night market foods are fried chicken, dumplings, and bread filled with
meat
Other night markets have special places where you can order food
and try some of the many dishes they have to offer. So far I have also
tried (stinky tofu) and my first try was at Shilin night market. My
trips to Pingtung and Kaoshung counties made me try other foods as well.
And back there we ate mostly Taiwanese food everyday and there weren’t
any convenient stores where we stayed. So we had to get used of the
local foods which was not quite difficult to get used to. In Taiwan
there are a lot of different foods to try and I really appreciate my
experiences so far. The food, the culture, the people, places add up to
a good experience so far.
