Guatemala is a multicultural country that has adopted several
customs from other countries like Taiwan, Korea or China. In Guatemala
there are a lot of Asian restaurants, and in my country Asian food is
prepared with a lot of garlic and spices and has a very strong flavor. I
always ask for fried rice with chicken, pork or shrimp, or a big plate
of chicken chow mein. These were my favorite kinds of Chinese food in
Guatemala.
I though that here in Taiwan I was going to
find the same food, but is very different than the Chinese food that I
tasted in my country. Here the cook uses every single part of the
animal, like the head, the legs, etc. Also the food here isn’t too
spicy; it has a balanced flavor and is healthier than the food I’m used
to.
Taiwanese food represents the culture and the lifestyles of the
people; everything is prepared quickly but still delicious, and the
person that’s attending you at the restaurant is always smiling and
trying to be as nice as they can.
Even on the airplane from Los Angeles to Taipei the stewards were
so nice and polite with me. In the airplane I ate the following seafood
meal: as an appetizer: smoked fish; main course: scallops, shrimp and
pasta; dessert: pineapple, watermelon, and a Milano biscuit; drink:
water, apple and orange juice. It was the best airplane food that I have
ever tasted.
In Taipei I went to a night market and I drank the most delicious
tea that I have ever tasted, it’s like a chocolate and milk flavor with
a brownish color, filled with little sweet pearls, its Chinese name in
Pinyin is zhen zhu nai cha. Taiwanese chefs should be very proud of this
culinary delicacy. The best food that I found was here in Tainan is Jiro
Fan, a bowl of rice with chicken and soy sauce, and the best place to
try it is in Chino Rico.
The best advice I can give you if you’re hungry and need something
delicious to eat, you can go to Chino Rico and buy a big bowl of Jiro
Fan and find a place that can provide you the delicious Zhen zhu nai cha
tea.
