Somebody once told me: "There is no such thing as a free lunch!"
But during my first month living in Taiwan I have learned that it is
better to say: "There is such a thing as a lunch given by a friend!";
because, thanks to the hospitality and generosity of the Taiwanese
people, I have been enjoying different kinds of delicious food in
various peculiar and beautiful places of Taiwan, and that is why
Taiwanese food has become my favorite kind of food in the world.
All the food has been delicious; as I have had
imany varieties of meat I have really liked them. The first time I had
Taiwanese meat, I was surprised because of its good flavor and it was a
pleasant reward after so many diverse activities that reflect the slow
and sometimes hard process of adaptation to this new culture.
I also have to say that I have found a big difference between the
drinks that I used to drink in El Salvador, and the new ones that I have
discovered in Taiwan. When I was in El Salvador, I drank cow milk,
coffee or orange juice for breakfast and any kind of juice or soda for
lunch and dinner; but here in Taiwan, I almost always drink tea after
every meal, but I do not complain about that because all of it tastes
really good.
I have not had problems with the Taiwanese food; in fact, I have
found it delicious - even though it tastes different from my country's
food. Living in Taiwan has been a great experience and the best part of
all is that it is only the beginning.
