My experience in Taiwan as a whole has been amazing. There are aspects
in this incredible experience that have been tough to get used to.
However, my food experience in Taiwan definitely has been a challenge.
My classmates and I are still searching around campus for more
restaurants which are not too different from our preferences. We have a
favorite one that is called Morning Time, too bad that kind of far from
campus. However, we go very often, so often that the (laoban) the
restaurant owner knows us even though he does not speak English. It has
an incredible food chow fan and a comfortable atmosphere.
Before coming to Taiwan, friends and family
members who have visited this amazing country before scared me. They
scared me by often asking, “What are you going to do with the food and
what are you going to eat when you get to Taiwan?” Now that I have seen
and tried some dishes that are not too different, well some dishes are
very different; however, there is a big variety of choosing exquisite
dishes. I believe that has been tough because of the big difference that
we used to eat in Guatemala. Moreover, the oriental food that people
find in America is not the actual Chinese food you will find in Taiwan,
especially the smell which is stronger than the smell I had in American.
It is hard for me to enjoy a dish with such a hard and different smell.
Every time I pass through the night market, a lot of dishes seem
delicious and they might be, but when I get closer, the smell doesn’t
convince me. This food experience has been hard although very
educational and interesting. I have seen so much that I believe when a
relative comes, I am not going to be able to describe many of the dishes
at the markets. Furthermore, I will feel good because I have learned
plenty of them; I believe that with time and patience maybe I will learn
most of them.
My favorite place to eat is far from campus, well is far because I
was not used to walking. Now I like to walk especially after the big
meal I get at Morning Time. It is a great restaurant with an incredible
good service, the Laoban and the staff are always very friendly and nice
with us. By the way, the restaurant Morning Time has the best Chow Fan
that I have tried in Taiwan. Well actually the best I have ever tried,
it is so good that since we came, we have had it at least five times a
week and still we do not get bored of it. Also, we can only go at
certain hours because other students would go at peak hours. So as you
all can see, we have to do some sacrifices in order to go and eat our
incredible chow fan at Morning Time restaurant. I will be glad if you
pay us a visit, then I can take you to get the best chow fan you have
ever had. Just let me know with time because maybe the Laoban probably
won’t like you all coming at the same time.
This hard to believe experience will stay with me forever. I am so
grateful for having this wonderful opportunity and with the Taiwan ICDF
which makes this dream achieved. I am also pleased to have the best chow
fan in Neili.
